Ganesh and Ashwini, our good friends from Abhivyakti Media for Development (based in Nasik, Maharashtra), came up to celebrate Rakhi with us.  They decided to share a simple critical media awareness game with young people in Udaipur.  They created a game board, under which each card appeared a product of some kind.  Notably, each card also showed a woman as part of the advertising.  The game explored how women (their bodies, faces, etc.) are used to advertise everything from vacuum cleaners to stereos.  Ganesh and Ashwinin discussed with young people, What does this portrayal and use of women in the media mean in the context of Rakshabandhan, when we are supposed to be caring for our sisters and female friends?  Several interesting conversations were provoked in these self-organized learning groups.
