For our vision of self-reliance at Shikshantar, we have started using a charkha (spinning wheel) to make our own cloth. During TV Turnoff Week, many people visited Shikshantar and used a charkha for the first time in their lives. Some took several hours to learn how to use and repair it, and also to understand why it is important for us today. We actually learn through our hands -- as artisans have shown us in their work.
